Seem Expensive?

People often think that a wedding photographers turns up on the day, shoots a load of pictures, gets home in the evening, edits out the bad shots and burns them to a disk.  While this may be true for some budget photographers it is certainly not the case for the vast majority of qualified wedding photographers, who will spend days in post production.  As a photographer I have a choice in the amount of time i spend editing a wedding, the equipment I use and the service I provide.  I could charge a lot less and just spend less time editing. If I didn’t bother with insurance I could charge less.  If I didn’t spend so much on training and photographic development I could charge less ( I have been a photographer for 17 years and I will never stop learning).   I could use cheaper cameras and lenses and not bother to have two sets of everything incase of a failure.  I could not bother to maintain onsite and offsite backup of all files. Every photograph I take (15 terabytes so far) is stored and backed up locally and in two online locations.  You won’t hear the words “sorry I lost your pictures” from me. I had a couple lose everything in a house fire, the only consolation was that they got all of their wedding pictures and an exact copy of their album  7 years after their wedding.

Lets forget all that for a minute and focus on the pictures, after all the best equipment, post production, insurance and backups don’t add up to great images.   I would rather have David Bailey photography my wedding with a compact camera than Joe Bloggs Wedding Photographer with all the best equipment and insurance in the world. Now I’m not saying I’m David Bailey but I’m no Joe Bloggs and hopefully the feedback I receive and the images I produce are testament to that.  With me you get a complete package, great photographs, top of the range equipment, extensive editing and and one last  thing……the way I get the pictures.

Although this is one of the last things I mentions is is also very important.  The way a photographer works, the way they actually go about the business of recording your day can have a dramatic effect on your whole day.   I get the shots I do through mutual cooperation, not by being bossy or telling you what to do. Sometimes I blend into the background and photograph events as they unfold, sometimes I am the center of attention and have to organise large groups of people, most of the time I am just there, sharing and documenting your wedding day. Again please read the feedback I receive here

One more thing before i go is a quote from John Ruskin made in the 1800’s, its still so true.

t’s unwise to pay too much, but it’s worse to pay too little. When
you pay too much, you lose a little money – that’s all. When you pay
too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you
bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The
common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a
lot – it can’t be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well
to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will
have enough to pay for something better.”
